Laker track and field teams second at opener in Park Rapids

Panthers sweep first meet of the season on home turf.

The Detroit Lakes track and field teams were in action for the first time this season recording second place finishes at Park Rapids Thursday, April 15.

The host Panthers swept both meets.

The Park Rapids girls outscored the Lakers 83.50-72.50. Clearbrook-Gonvick was a distant third with 17 points.

DL was strong in sprints.

Abby Larson won the 100m dash in 13.12 with teammate Ella Paulson in second place (13.53).

First place was worth five points, second through fourth scored three points to one in descending order.

Sasha Sekundiak won by more than a second in the 200m dash crossing the line in 26.71.

Clara Robin placed third in 28.93.

Clara Lundmark and Sadie Johnson had scoring finishes in the 400m. Lundmark placed third in 1:11.52; Johnson was fourth (1:11.68).

Julia Steffl finished third in the 800m (2:49.81), followed by Kira Wolf in fourth place (3:02.56).

DL had three of the top four 1,600m times led by winner Katie McConkey (6:22.15). Isla Pender was the runner-up in 6:38.78; Marin Johnson clocked 7:04.81 in fourth place.

Jerzie Horner (19.00) and Rylee Johnson went two-three in the 100m hurdles with Jordan Ehnert in fourth place (20.12).

The top three 300m hurdles finishes went to Laker sprinters: Ann Paulson (53.12), Horner (54.21) and Alex Bettcher (57.55).

DL had a pair of second place relay finishes in the 4x400 and 4x800.

The Lakers got two wins in the field.

Jordyn Johnson cleared 4-6 to win the high jump. Bettcher was the runner-up with a 4-4 jump, along with Mallory Fischer in fourth (4-4).

Jacee Hauser won the shot put with a throw of 29-07.

Robin finished third in the long jump (13-7).

Kylee Price (95-10) and Hauser (93-00) finished second and third, respectively, in the discus throw.

Three DL boys pick up wins

Park Rapids scored 110 points to win the boys meet. DL scored 46 points to place second with Clearbrook-Gonvick in third (17).

Christian Solberg led a four-pack of Lakers in the 200m finishing first through fourth. Solberg won in 24.30, followed by Mason Carrier (24.46), Jacob Kalina (24.96), and Hunter Zempel (25.18).

Clay Perkins cleared 5-4 to win the high jump. Brandton Marsh was fourth (5-2).

Caeden Yliniemi won the long jump with a leap of 19-5.25. Perkins was third (17-02.5) and Zempel fourth (16-08).

Ethan Carrier was the 100m runner-up (11.64).

Marsh finished third in the 400m (59.44).

Mason Hamar ran 2:21.96 to place third in the 800m.

Gannon Braun was the top Laker in the 1,600m finishing fourth in 5:30.35.

Jacob Ehnert (39-02) and Hunter Jorgenson (33-01) placed second and fourth, respectively, in the shot put.

Ehnert threw 92-feet to finish fourth in the discus.

Detroit Lakes is home on upcoming consecutive Tuesdays hosting Frazee and Perham Tuesday, April 20 and Fergus Falls April 27 at Mollberg Field.
