The Detroit Lakes volleyball team won their second consecutive game with a 3-0 shutout of visiting Crosby-Ironton Thursday night. DL had little trouble in any of the three sets winning by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-15 to even their Mid-State Conference mark at 1-1 and improve to 3-9 overall. “It was great to see all the support in the stands from parents and students,” head coach Lynnsey Wimmer said. Thursday was Parents Night and a night to celebrate the team’s lone senior Kyra Vagle. “She had a great game,” said Wimmer. “She passed very well tonight, as did the rest of the team having the backs of their teammates. With that continuing, we will keep seeing growth.” Vagle had three kills, two blocks and four digs. Mikayla Markuson led the Lakers with six kills and added two blocks at net.
Hannah Rhodes and Naomi Larson each recorded three aces. Abby Schramel had a team-high 10 digs to go with six assists. Teeya Doppler was strong at the net on both sides with five kills and a team-high seven blocks. “Crosby had some great players but our girls in front read well and were able to make a lot of stops at the net,” Wimmer said. The Lakers excelled at the service line missing only two serves and serving at 97 percent, which surpasses an early season goal set by Wimmer. “This will be key moving into October,” she said. “We still have growth, but these girls prove to grow each week. It is fun to watch and our goal is to peak in October. They are working hard to do that.” The Lakers are 3-1 in their last four matches and will face East Grand Forks (3-9) to cap September on Tuesday, the 29th at home.
