Laker winning streak stretches to eight games after road sweep of Otters and Flyers

Detroit Lakes erases early leads and scores big late, including four homer runs, in pair of victories at Little Falls.

The Detroit Lakes bats were in full swing, including home runs from four different batters, in a road sweep of Fergus Falls and the Flyers in Little Falls Friday, May 7.

The Lakers erased early deficits in each victory.

DL trailed the Otters 3-1 before taking the lead with a four-run bottom half and scoring in each of the final four frames to mercy rule Fergus Falls 13-3 in six innings.

Zack Oistad doubled in Blaine Henderson and Tanner Schnathorst to start the third inning rally. Jacob Thomas hit an RBI single to score Oistad and scored on a Tanner Brend single to take a 6-3 lead.

The Lakers added a run in the fourth, four in the fifth and sealed the sixth-inning with three runs on a two RBI single by Brend. Jordan Tucker had the winning stroke knocking in Jake Bishop with run 13.


The Lakers pounded out 16 hits. Tucker, Oistand and Brend had three each. Henderson and Schnathorst added a pair each.

Bradly Swiers pitched 4.2 innings to earn the win, striking out seven.

Tucker cleared up the final four outs.

Little Falls and Detroit Lakes were in a dogfight tied at 5-5 with the Lakers batting in the top of the sixth.

The Lakers scored five times with two outs to blow the game open 10-5.

Schnathorst doubled home Bishop and Tucker. Oistad hit his second home run of the season, a three-run bomb, with Henderson and Schnathorst aboard.

Logan Lund added a solo shot for insurance in the top of the seventh for the 11-5 final.

Tucker homered in the top of the third to get DL on the board trailing 3-1 at the time. DL’s leadoff hitter was 4-5 at the plate scoring three times and adding one RBI.


Thomas cut the Flyer lead to 5-3 in the top of the fourth with a two-run shot scoring Oistad.

All three home runs were firsts this season for the trio.

Thomas had two hits, two RBI and scored. Oistad had four RBI and two runs scored. He started the game on the mound giving up five funs, three earned, in 2.1 innings.

Tucker pitched 4.2 innings of hitless ball in relief, striking out three.

The Lakers have won eight consecutive games to improve to 10-2 overall. The win over Little Falls was a first in three games against section opponents.

Detroit Lakes continues its road trip at East Grand Forks Tuesday, May 11, and Pequot Lakes Thursday, May 13. One victory over the Patriots will clinch sole possession of the Mid-State Conference regular season championship.
