Detroit Lakes track and field teams were shut out of state berths in the final year of the two class system in Minnesota at the Section 8AA championships in Fergus Falls Saturday, June 12.
Sophomore Abby Larson made a solid bid at qualifying in the 100m dash placing fourth, the top Detroit Lakes finish of the day.
Larson ran 12.55 to cross the line. The top two finishers automatically qualify and any athlete that meets the state qualifying standard.
Larson’s time was a mere 0.09 seconds short of the 12.46 standard.
Freshman Rylee Johnson was the first Laker on the track and was in the mix of the 100m hurdles before catching a hurdle and going down two jumps short of the finish line. She placed eighth overall.
