Hannah Rhodes scored twice and Hailey Sonstegard netted the game-winner in a 4-2 Detroit Lakes victory over Northern Lakes Tuesday night. The Lakers outplayed the Lightning in the first period and outshot Northern Lakes 14-8 but went to the intermission down by a score of 1-0 on a nice deflection by Carly Fyle on a slapshot with 1:14 left in the period. Emily Schiltz tied the game at 4:37 on an assist by Sonstegard. Rhodes took a feed from Tarissa Wheeler at 14:56 to give DL a 2-1 lead but the Lightning scored late gain trying the game at two-all in the final minute. Sonstegard scored the game-winner on her team-leading 17th goal of the season three minutes into the third period assisted by Emily Seebold and Randa Larsen. Jamie Bollig made a nice rush up the ice eluding defenders to set up Rhodes with the insurance goal at 12:43 to ice the game. Bollig was sharp Tuesday night and used her speed wisely to negotiate the Lightning defense and keep pucks out of her own end.
Goalie Vernoica Badurek picked up her 10th victory of the season making 27 saves. Badurek has started all 16 Laker games and DL and Badurek are 10-4-1 overall. Badurek has a goals against average of 2.38 and a save percentage of .903. Rhodes two goals were her third and fourth of the season. Sonstegard leads the team in points with 17 goals and five assists. Randa Larsen has 21 points (11G, 10A). The Lakers are off until Tuesday, Jan. 6 when they continue their home stand against Morris/Benson Area (1-9).
