Lakers Weightlifting qualifies a third for state and two for youth nationals
Lakers have one remaining competition to add qualifiers.
The Detroit Lakes weightlifting team competed at the 5th annual Spud Thud Weightlifting Meet Saturday, March 20 in Moorhead.
“We brought great energy and excitement to the meet,” head coach Dylan Surface said. “Everyone lifted hard and supported their teammates. We went in with a solid plan, and we gave it everything we had. I’m so proud of what our athletes have been able to accomplish. We are continuing to grow in numbers, and have really started to develop an elite culture. I look forward to what we will accomplish this season.”
Shawn Carey qualified for youth nationals by totaling 115 kg.
Charlie Zok posted a 163kg total to qualify for both state and youth nationals.
Previously state-qualified lifters Austin Schons and Will Martin, were able to secure qualifications in second weight classes as well.
Others took steps closer to qualifying for state. Waylon Lekatz and Nick Tobkin are both within 10 kg of qualifying, and will have a chance on Thursday to compete in the Last Chance Meet.
The Last Chance is the final opportunity for lifters within 10 kg of qualifying to get one more shot at making it to state.
