MOORHEAD – The Detroit Lakes Legion baseball team kept its season alive in a Sub-State 14 elimination game against Brainerd on Thursday.

Post 15 erased a one-run deficit with a five-run sixth inning. Trailing 5-4, Mason Omberg scored on a passed ball before Grady Kirchner gave Detroit Lakes the lead with an RBI single.

Jordan Tucker brought home another run with a base hit before Jacob Thomas plated two on a bunt play. Kirchner scored before Tucker came home on a throwing error.

Four runs were enough cushion for Bradly Swiers to close out the win. He threw all seven innings, allowing just two earned runs with four strikeouts.

Swiers started the scoring in the bottom of the first by scoring on a passed ball. He was on third base after a leadoff double and a sacrifice bunt from Kirchner.

Brainerd got the run back before Detroit Lakes added three more in the bottom of the second. Weirs doubled for the second straight inning to bring home Omberg. Logan Adams scored in the next at-bat on a wild pitch before Tucker cleared the bases with a triple.

Brainerd took its only lead of the game in the top of the fourth inning. A pair of run-scoring singles set up Eli Owen’s two-RBI base hit.

Swiers went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and three runs scored at the plate. Jordan Tucker also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 with a triple and two walks. Detroit Lakes is now 17-12 on the summer.

Detroit Lakes will play in another elimination game on Friday morning against third-seeded Bemidji. If Post 15 wins, it will take on the winner of Perham and East Grand Forks later in the afternoon.
