MOORHEAD – Post 15’s cinderella run through the elimination bracket in the Sub-State 14 baseball tournament came to an end on Saturday at the hands of the top seed in the field.

Moorhead beat Detroit Lakes 6-1 to clinch a spot in the championship game at Matson Field. After allowing a run in the first, Moorhead scored six unanswered to half Post 15’s title hopes.

Jordan Tucker scored the game’s first run on a double steal with two outs in the top of the first inning. Moorhead got the run back after a leadoff double led to a fielder’s choice in the bottom half of the frame.

Moorhead added another run in the second inning on a wild pitch before scoring on another fielder’s choice in the fourth. Three insurance runs on a sacrifice fly and a single in the sixth were enough to advance to the title game against Alexandria.

Joshua Goodspeed threw 5 and 2/3 innings on the mound in his start. He allowed two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Post 15 managed just three hits. Jacob Thomas, Noah Rieber and Goodspeed all singled.

Moorhead won the Sub-State 14 tournament after beating Alexandria twice on Saturday and Sunday. For the second year in a row, Moorhead will compete at the state Legion baseball tournament. Detroit Lakes finished in third place for the second consecutive season.
