Tye Wilke continued his torrid pace in the INEX Legends in Jamestown Saturday, July 27.
The 16-year-old from Detroit Lakes won a 10th feature race of 2020 following a door-to-door battle with veteran Donavin Wiest.
A late-race caution produced laps led by both Wilke and Wiest, but it was Wilke’s high line that prevailed.
Wilke led 15 laps after starting eighth in the 12-car field.
“It’s hard,” said Wilke, who’s in his fifth season driving a legend. “(Wiest’s) been right here the whole time since I started racing.”
Wilke has won all three legends races held this season at Jamestown Speedway, holding off Wiest for a second consecutive week.
“The track’s been great and the car’s been working good,” Wilke said.
Friday night in West Fargo was more of the same for Wilke.
He remained undefeated in the INEX legends division working his way to the lead from the 10th starting spot and cruised to claim his ninth overall win of the season.
Another Detroit Lakes driver has gotten comfortable in KRJB 106.5FM victory lane.
Tanner Engen collected his third consecutive IMCA hobby stock feature win in dominating fashion. Engen led 10 of the 12 circuits and won by over a full straightaway.
“It’s been such an amazing year already. We started the year off a little rough, but it’s been more than amazing,” said Engen. “We started pretty deep in the field, but we chased the front and made it work.”
Sunday night at Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon Wilke was a third place finisher behind Alex and Ryan Braseth of Ulen. The Braseths started 1-2 and held those positions switching spots at the checkered flag. Wilke moved up from a start in sixth position.
Thursday’s races in Ada were postponed due to weather conditions.
