Tyson Ullyott advanced at 126 pounds with a second period pin of United Clay Becker’s Jackson Mikkelson in the first round. He was defeated by Alexandria’s Blaze Nelson 10-3 in the semis, but defeated D-G-F’s Roy Rude 15-10 to grab a top four spot.

Jacob Ehnert had the longest road to qualify at 220 pounds. Ehnert lost the opener to top-seeded Hunter Fischer of D-G-F by fall, but pinned both Kevin Raya (0:38) of Sauk Centre-Melrose and Jolson Sargent of Thief River Falls (3:38) to advance.
An 8-person bracket was used with full wrestlebacks to determine the top four qualifiers from the two sections wrestling in Pequot Lakes (8AA and 7AA).
This year’s format is significantly different from the usual state tournament, according to The Guillotine .
There are no section champions with the top four advancing. The State prelims will be held with 8 individuals—the four individuals from each of the two sections (8AA and 7AA).
Brackets for State prelims will be pre-set based on seedings of qualifiers from the section competition No. 1 seed vs opposite section No. 4, No. 2 seed vs opposite section No. 3.
State prelims are scheduled for Saturday, March 20 beginning at 11 a.m., at Foley high school.
