The North Star Football Conference has announced the Players of the Week for the first week of action.

In the East Division, the Offensive Player of the Week was Austin Richter, a senior of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley. Richter had nine receptions for 80 yards and scored a touchdown in the Wolves’ loss to Lake Park-Audubon.

The Defensive Player of the Week was Weston Smith, a senior from Pine River-Backus. Smith recorded a sack, two additional tackles for loss and 10 total tackles as the Tigers defeated Fosston 14-6.

In the West Division, the Offensive Players of the Week were junior Taylor Briard of Lake Park-Audubon, who had 152 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 10 attempts and added 74 receiving yards and a touchdown as the Raiders defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 38-12.

Mitchell Mosher, a senior from Fertile-Beltrami, was the other Offensive Player of the Week, after he recorded 253 yards on 25 carries as the Falcons defeated Blackduck 14-6.

The Defensive Player of the Week was Garrett Malstrom, a junior from Frazee, who led the Hornet defense with a solo  tackle, several tackles for a loss and involved in multiple tackles for the evening as Frazee defeated Bagley 22-13.

Other outstanding performances for the week were turned in by Matt Tangen of Frazee and Austin Reitan of Mahnomen.
