BAUDETTE, Minn. – Lake of the Woods in northwest Minnesota has been named among the top nine ice fishing destinations in the U.S. by FishingBooker, an online platform for booking fishing trips.

Here’s what FishingBooker had to say about Lake of the Woods and its ranking among the country’s top ice fishing destinations:

“Only topped by the Great Lakes, Lake of the Woods is a major player and a proud owner of more than 300,000 acres of water in the United States. Massive and impressive, the lake is the ultimate ice fishing playground. Come winter, the lake becomes dotted with shanties and passionate (anglers). Many opt for overnight camping and sleepless nights (in) skid houses, too.

Titled “Mink Sink, Swim on Burbot Catch,” the 1954 article featured commercial fishermen who were netting the “voracious predatory monsters” through the ice on Lake of the Woods for use as mink food.

“All that is to try their luck at reeling in the mighty three – walleye, northern pike and sauger. While pike and sauger receive attention, walleye always steal the spotlight. Gear up because the northwest part of Minnesota guarantees a one-of-a-kind ice fishing adventure.”

Lake of the Woods was the only destination in Minnesota or North Dakota to make this year’s list. In 2020, FishingBooker named Devils Lake and Upper Red Lake among its top ice fishing destinations.
