Poles 'N Holes to hold virtual event to go with annual ice fishing derby

“It is our goal to hold the on-ice derby, if at all possible. The community has been good to us and we really feel like this outdoor activity will be needed for fishing enthusiasts and families after all we’ve been through,” said organizer Brent Gerber.

The Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club is working closely with the DNR to hold its 11th Annual Poles ‘N Holes Ice Fishing Derby on Feb. 6, 2021.

The DNR at this point has not issued a permit for the derby in consideration of the governor’s restriction of non-family activities set to expire today (Dec. 18).

The club is excited to offer its first ever virtual fishing derby in conjunction with the event that will actually take place the following weekend (Feb 12-14).

Find out how you can compete for over $3,000 in prizes from the comfort of your own fish house by accessing the Fish Donkey app which is downloadable via Google Play or in the Apple App Store.

“It is our goal to hold the on-ice derby, if at all possible. The community has been good to us and we really feel like this outdoor activity will be needed for fishing enthusiasts and families after all we’ve been through,” said Brent Gerber, who sits on the event organizational committee. “It’s not really about how much money we can raise — we want to help the citizens and area businesses as much as we can by conducting safe and pandemic-compliant events.”

If held, the committee expects that participation will be limited. All registrations will be online via the website, www.icefishingdetroitlakes.org where you can also sign up for weekly newsletters providing event updates and area fishing reports.

The club will conduct a separate raffle, as in previous years. Raffle tickets can be purchased from Lakes Sports Shop, Quality Bait and Tackle, County 6 Gas and Bait, Northshore Gas and Bait, Lakeland General Store or from any Breakfast Rotarian.

It’s important to check the website for updates and the opening of the online registration. No tickets will be sold at local outlets or on the ice.
