DLPA breaks ground on new courts

Detroit Lakes area Pickleball players recently welcomed the Chamber Ambassadors and the DL Street Department to help break ground for the new Pickleball courts in Peoples Park on Tuesday, June 12.  

After the DLPA fundraised $200,000, the courts are currently under construction by the City of DL Park Board.  

The six additional new courts will be available for play about mid-August.  

The new courts will feature a sun-friendly North-South orientation, a safe playing surface and fencing.   

Two new volleyball courts are also included in the current improvements to Peoples Park, the site of the skateboard park and the Farmers Market Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

Outdoor pickleball play will currently continue at Peoples Park inside the hockey boards. These courts are freshly painted and are always available.

Pickleball players meet each morning Monday through Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m.

Scheduled play is Open play rotating all skill levels of pickleball players.

The next beginners lessons are June 25-26 starting at 9 a.m. Equipment is provided. Players are advised to wear good court shoes.

Players may also gather on Monday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m.
