Midnight opening anglers may have been better off than those who waited for sunrise as wet snowfall began to lay a light blanket in Detroit Lakes around 10 a.m.

Curt Shasky braved the elements and got a line in by taking shelter under Long Bridge.

A check of each lake access produced one car, no trailers and the lake was shrouded in cloud making any boats that might have been out invisible from shore.

By mid-afternoon, the snow had given way to a steady rainfall and moderate winds from the east.

Isaiah Evans, Chase Roy and Dustin Corrade were nearby fishing the multiple spots available at Dunton Locks. Evans reported bites had been few and far between on what was turning out to be a tough day for landing fish at the usual hotspot.

While fishing in the area was slow, Emma Templin, age 10, of Cannon Falls had a great morning near Duluth with her catches.
