Senior Ian Simonich, the 2020 Pine to Palm champion, led the Moorhead Spuds to a three-shot victory over Detroit Lakes, despite the Lakers carding a season-low score of 300 from the top four golfers, at the Fergus Falls Invitational Friday, April 30, at Pebble Lake Golf Course.
Simonich shot a 6-under-par 66 to finish in front of three Lakers: Lukas Justesen (71) in second place, Nick Tobkin and Jake Green in a tie for third with matching 75s.
Tommy Suckert finished with a 79 and a share of 10th place.
Ben Hines was one shot back with an 80 and Logan Schons shot 84 in the sophomore’s first varsity meet.
“Good team score, we had chances of being really low,” DL head coach Bob Gorden said. “Each guy had one or two bad holes, but our hard work and team competition is paying off, improving every day.”
