WAUBUN - The Pine to Prairie Chapter of Pheasants Forever has its annual banquet on April 11 at Bear's Sports Bar in Waubun.

The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m., said Charles Jasken, a Pine to Prairie chapter member and volunteer.

Tickets range from $20 for spouses and Ringnecks to $40. Jasken said the $20 Ringneck ticket also includes a Pheasants Forever membership and is an attempt to draw in members under the age of 18.

"We're trying to get the youth involved in Pheasants Forever," he said.

The tickets are good for membership in Pheasants Forever and a meal for the evening.

Jasken said four guns are going to be given away, along with door prizes, drawings and other games.

"Almost everybody's guaranteed a door prize," he said.

Jasken said money raised at the annual banquet is used for local activities.

"Recently, Pheasants Forever just bought some land -- just north of Ogema. That's all put back into natural habitat for wildlife," he said.

That land, 240 acres, Spring Creek Wildlife Management Area, has been opened to public hunting. The Pine to Prairie Chapter is currently working with the Department of Natural Resources to develop a three-year management plan for the area.

The chapter has also worked with the DNR to improve wildlife areas in Becker and Mahnomen Counties, including grassland habitat. The areas include Ogema Springs, Vanose, Gregory, Waubun, Hubbel Pond, Teiken/Dalve, Frank, and Pednor Wildlife Management Areas.

Pheasants Forever is a national organization "dedicated to the conservation of pheasants, quail and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public awareness, education and land management policies and programs."
