PARK RAPIDS – The Detroit Lakes boys golf team finished in seventh place in the two-day Section 8-3A boys golf championship at Headwaters Golf Club.
Nick Tobkin paced the Lakers with a combined 16-over-par score of 160. He was four strokes off of qualifying for state individually.
The sophomore made five birdies on the final day. After a bogey on No. 1, he got back to even par on the second hole before roping off four straight pars. He birdied three of the last five holes to finish six-over-par and lock up a 12th-place finish.
Logan Schons was 22-over-par for the tournament in 22nd place. On day one, he was 10-strokes off of even with seven pars and a birdie on No. 18. He also birdied No. 12 on day two to help finish with a 166.
Senior Jack Syltie ended his high school career with a 31st-place finish. He was 25-over-par with four birdies over two days. All of his birdies came on the front nine.

Carter Whitworth was the final varsity scorer for the Lakers. The eighth-grader was 26-over-par with a score of 170. He birdied No. 8 on day one before adding another on No. 13 on day two.
Freshman Tyler Stensgard tallied a two-day score of 178. Eighth-grader Lawsen Justesen only competed on one day of the section championship. He scored an 89 in his lone round.
Alexandria won its fifth consecutive section title with a team score of 628. Brainerd was four strokes off the lead, while Moorhead took third with a 641.
Moorhead’s Joe Kortan had the medalist score of 149. Sartell’s Carson Andel took second at 153, while Alexandria’s Braeden Sladek finished in third at 154.
