The Detroit Lakes boys swimming and diving team made a trip to Park Rapids on Saturday to swim against three conference and section opponents.
The Lakers took fourth place with a team score of 176. Park Rapids won with a total of 520, while Bemidji (456) and Perham-New York Mills (320) rounded out the podium.
John Gulon brought home the lone first-place finish on Saturday in the 100-yard backstroke. He finished with a time of 57.67, while Micah Barberg took second with a time of 1:07.95. Barberg also took fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:14.88) and anchored the fourth-place 400-yard relay (4:25.23) team with Gulon, Carson Jensen and Zane Roberts. Lane Yliniemi also took second among all divers with a score of 243.35.
Lakers pick up a win in Morris
On Thursday night, the Lakers took care of business against Morris Area with a 92-77 win. Detroit Lakes won 11-of-12 varsity events.
Ryan Erickson won the 200-yard IM (2:36.45) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.57). Roberts also took first place in two individual events. He won the 500-yard freestyle race with a time of 6:16.95 and the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:30.75. Luther Van Offelen, Yliniemi, Gulon and Barberg all swam in first-place events.
Detroit Lakes has a pair of home meets this week. The Lakers host Perham-New York Mills on Thursday at 6 p.m. before welcoming the Mid-State teams to the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center on Saturday for the Conference championships.
