ALEXANDRIA – The Detroit Lakes tennis team has two singles still alive in the Section 8-2A individual tennis tournament after a marathon day one on Tuesday.
Second-seeded Nate Cihak and fourth-seeded Reed Henderson each finished in the top four in the North sub-section bracket to advance to day two. Henderson and Cihak played against each other in the third-place matchup, where Henderson pulled out a narrow 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 win in three sets.
Henderson got a bye to the second round and beat Cole Haabala 6-3, 6-0 before facing the tournament's top seed. Bemidji's Matt Benhamou beat Henderson 6-3, 6-0 to knock him into the third-place match against his teammate.
Cihak also got a bye into the second round before taking down Moorhead's Oscar Bergeson 6-1, 6-1. In the semifinals, Cihak suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss against Bemidji's Noah Johnson, setting up an all-Detroit Lakes third-place match.
Henderson and Cihak will play in the championship bracket on May 26.

The Lakers also had two doubles teams competing. Connor Zamzo and Justin Fields lost in three sets to Sartell's Zak Farley and Grant Clark 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 after getting a bye in the first round.
Gave Reller and Gavin Smith beat Adam Pettys and Brody Hansen 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 before falling to Alexandria's Pieter Mulder and Owen Gilbertson 6-0, 6-3.
