Boys track and field: Laker boys take fifth in Alexandria Relays Invitational

ALEXANDRIA – The Detroit Lakes track and field teams competed in Alexandria’s annual Relays Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Laker boys came away with a fifth-place finish.

In the 110-meter hurdle shuttle, the team of Alexander Fletcher, Zach Olson, Brady Wirtz, Anthony Reading and Devon Berg took third place with a time of 1:14.41. Hunter Zempel, Charlie Kalina, Jamus Walz and Tyler Ostilie took fifth in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:39.56.

In the 4x100, Ethan Carrier, Mason Carrier, Cameron Marxen and Zempel scored one of the best finishes of the day for the Lakers. They took second place with a time of 44.99, which was 0.09 off of Alexandria’s first-place finish.

Fletcher had another solid day in the field events. He took third place in the high jump at 5-feet, 8-inches, before taking sixth in the pole vault at 10-feet, 3-inches. Brandton Marsh took second place in the triple jump at 42-feet, 1-inch, only behind the defending state champion in Alexandria’s Will Heydt (44-feet, 9-inches).

The Lakers finished with a team score of 46. Alexandria ran away with first place at a total of 156. Pequot Lakes was second with 90 points.
