LONG PRAIRIE – The Detroit Lakes cross country teams competed at the Mid-State Conference meet on Tuesday in Long Prairie.
Both the boys and girls teams took fourth place. Julia Steffl paced the Laker girls with a ninth-place finish with a time of 20:34.33. Sadie Johnson finished inside the top 15 with a 13th-place finish at 21:07.44.
Natalie Mohr (21:49.67, 24th), Marin Johnson (22:16.59, 26th) and Lila Kallstrom (22:21.47) rounded out the top five for Detroit Lakes. Maria Foltz (22:25.92, 28th) and Karli Skarie (22:45.16, 31st) also finished with varsity times.
Brayden Francis clocked in the fastest boys time for Detroit Lakes. He finished in 13th place at 17:43.48. Micah Barberg wasn’t far behind in 20th place with a time of 18:53.58.
Hunter Hanson (19:31.30, 24th), Xander Jessen (19:57.27, 27th) and Payton Malecka (20:21.77, 29th) completed the Lakers’ top five. Declan Jessen (21:13.12, 30th) and Avery Brown (21:48.23) also finished with varsity times.

Staples-Motley cruised to a Mid-State Conference girls title with a score of 29. Park Rapids took second (65), while Pequot Lakes finished third (80). The Lakers tallied 99 points in fourth. Pequot Lakes’ Calia Chaney won the Mid-State Conference individual championship.
Park Rapids won the boys title with a team score of 29. Staples-Motley took second (40), while Pequot took third (70). The Lakers finished fourth with a score of 104. Pequot Lakes’ Eli Hall had the fastest overall time at 15:41.82.
