Cross country: Lakers run in Fergus Falls' John Hermes invite

The Detroit Lakes cross country team traveled to Fergus Falls on Thursday for the John Hermes Invitational.

FERGUS FALLS – The Detroit Lakes cross country teams ran in the John Hermes Invitational on Thursday afternoon in Fergus Falls.

The Laker girls took seventh place while the boys finished eighth. Julia Steffl notched a top-10 finish with a time of 20:50.8–good enough for ninth place.

Natalie Mohr took 34th with a time of 23:22.5, followed by Karli Skarie (23:35.3, 39th), Marin Johnson (23:42.6, 40th) and Lila Kallstrom (24:16.4) to round out the top five finishers for the Lakers.

Alexandria took first place as a team with a score of 25. The Cardinals beat out Moorhead (46) and Fergus Falls (84) for the top spot. Alexandria’s Citori Halbe won the overall medalist honor with a time of 19:46.0. Detroit Lakes finished with 171 points.

Brayden Francis paced the Lacer boys with a time of 18:24.3. His time landed him in 2oth place. Micah Barberg took 37th at 19:27.3. Xander Jessen (20:36.0, 45th), Hunter Hanson (20:58.5, 50th) and Ben Sundby (21:04.0, 51st) also finished for Detroit Lakes.

The Lakers totaled a team score of 203. Fargo North took first place with a score of 38, followed by Fergus Falls (56) and Alexandria (63). Owen Sondag of Fargo North won the race with a time of 16:27.9.
