Football: Area football players receive Northwest District football awards

Area football players earned Northwest District football awards for the 2022 season.

DETROIT LAKES – The Northwest District handed out awards for the 2022 football season.

New York Mills and Wadena-Deer Creek were heavily represented in the South Division,

Brayden Ehnert, Monte Briard, Jonah Ruther and Bode Roberts were New York Mills’ All-District team selections. DaShaun Robinson, Sam Kopveiler and Jon Rinerson were named All-District honorable mentions for the Eagles.

Roberts won Defensive Lineman of the Year for the South Division, while Ruther won the Defensive Back of the Year award. Roberts was also named the overall Defensive Player of the Year award winner. Matt Radniecki was selected as the Head Coach of the Year winner, while Peder Butenhof was Assistant Coach of the Year.

Wadena-Deer Creek had four All-District team selections. Evan Lunde, Koby Endres, MJ Lunde and Teshe Loer joined honorable mentions Grant Seelhammer, Isaac Hamann, Josiah Kallevig and Cole Woods.


Evan Lunde was the South’s Linebacker of the Year winner. Woods was named Special Teams Player of the Year. Offensively, Kallevig brought home the Quarterback of the Year award, while Loer won Receiver of the Year.

New York Mills finished on top of the South Division standings with a record of 5-1. The Eagles finished with a regular-season record of 7-1. Wadena-Deer Creek was third in the division with a record of 4-2.

In the West Division, Mahnomen-Waubun cleaned up six All-District team selections. Dennis Ashley, Tyson McArthur, Braylen Heisler, Brok Spalla, Kasey Wadena and Dawson Draco were honored. Curtis Mehr, Lex McDougall and Jameson Donner were honorable mentions.

Three Thunderbirds received district awards. Heisler won Defensive Lineman of the Year, while Wadena won Offensive Lineman of the Year. Bomber Clark was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

Lake Park-Audubon had six raiders receive recognition. Zeke Noel, Drew Harris and Kaden Beske were put on the All-District team, while Brodie Chilton, Anton Wickenheiser and Landon Gillespie received honorable mentions. Beske earned the Special Teams Player of the Year award.

Mahnomen-Waubun won the West Division title with a record of 6-0 and an overall record of 7-1 during the regular season. Lake Park-Audubon finished with a district mark of 3-3.
