PERHAM- The Perham and Frazee girls basketball teams faced off for a Heart O’ Lakes Conference matchup on Tuesday night that went beyond the game of basketball.
The two teams came together for a Color out Cancer promotion to raise money for Hoops for Hope. At the end of the night, over $2,000 was raised for cancer research.
As for the game, the Yellowjackets (15-1) muscled out a 70-43 win over the Hornets (5-11). Perham continued its dominance in the HOL Conference, staying undefeated at 8-0. Frazee fell to 1-7 in HOL Conference play.
“What was mostly a single-digit margin all night turned into a blowout in the second half when we embarked on a 17-0 run over a four and a half minute stretch,” Perham head coach TJ Super said. “Great hustle plays highlighted the run, as well as some great extra passing and hot shooting by Mya Morris.”
Morris finished tied with Frazee’s Jayden Sonnenberg as the game’s top scorer with 22 points. She also added three rebounds, two assists and made 6-of-9 shots from beyond the arc. Perham’s Willow Thiel finished with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Perham’s Kaia Anderson (14) knocked down 3-of-6 threes.

The Yellowjackets finished the night shooting 26-of-45 (58%) from the floor and 10-of-19 (52%) on threes. Perham also went 8-of-12 (67%) from the free throw line.
