Girls golf: Detroit Lakes wins home invite behind Knoop's medalist round

DETROIT LAKES – The Detroit Lakes girls golf team won its first home meet of the season at the Detroit Lakes Country Club. The Lakers took first place with a team score of 307 on the Lakeview course.
Sophomore Hanna Knoop paced Detroit Lakes with a medalist round at 68. She shot even par on the front nine with a birdie on No. 1 and a bogey on No. 3. Knoop also made pars on five holes on the back nine.
Senior McKenna Mallow took second in the field at 75. She made par on four holes on the front nine before kicking off the back nine with a birdie. Mallow finished the round with four pars on the last seven holes.
Laura Syltie tied for sixth in the pack at 79. She strung together three pars on the front nine before making par putts on two of the last three holes. Freshman Sydney Miller (85) was six strokes behind Syltie to round out the varsity scorers for Detroit Lakes.
Detroit Lakes had nine golfers compete on a rainy Friday morning. Eighth-graders Tatum Gatheridge and Maddie McDougall shot an 86 and an 88. Maya Boeke (102), Jaycie Sliper (106) and Becca Hunter (116) rounded out the day for the Lakers.
Pequot Lakes took second place with a team score of 317. Moorhead finished third at 338, while Bemidji came into the clubhouse with a 402.
