BRAINERD – The Detroit Lakes girls golf team had one of its best showings of the season at The Classic Invitational at Madden’s.
The Lakers took second place and finished three strokes behind Brainerd, the host school. McKenna Mallow tied Brainerd’s Izzy Olson for the medalist score with an 80. She made birdies on Nos. 1 and 3 before carding eight pars on the back nine.
Sophomore Hannah Knoop also recorded two birdies on her way to a 10-over-par 82. She tied Bemidji’s Tatum Offerdahl in fourth place in the field. Eighth-grader Tatum Gatheridge also landed in the top 10 at sixth place. She birdied Nos. 15 and 17 on the back nine to highlight her 11-over-par round.
Freshman Sydney Miller rounded out the Lakers’ top four with a 91, which was tied for 15th place. Laura Syltie was one stroke behind in 18th, while Mya Boeke came in 54th with a score of 116.
Brainerd won with a score of 333 to edge out the Lakers. Pequot Lakes (366), Minnewaska (366) and Moorhead (380) finished in the top five.
