Girls hockey: Lakers stumble against Hastings, East Grand Forks
The Detroit Lakes girls hockey team is searching for its first win of the season after suffering losses against Hastings and East Grand Forks.
DETROIT LAKES – The Detroit Lakes girls hockey team had another tough night on Friday.
The Lakers (0-4-0) fell to Hastings (3-0-0) 13-0 at the Kent Freeman Arena. The Raiders took advantage of nine Detroit Lakes penalties with four power-play goals.
Eight Hastings players had multi-point games. Kylie Gruden led the way with a goal and three assists. Madyn Hanson, Lauren Muhl, Karissa Thompson and Addie Seleksi each had a pair of goals.
Eighth-grader Talyn Anderson had a spoiled performance in goal. She stopped 47 of 59 shots in just her fourth varsity game.
The Lakers fell to East Grand Forks (2-2-0) on Thursday night behind a pair of Green Wave hat tricks. Blake Schultz and Kara Ellis each had three goals in a 10-0 win over Detroit Lakes. The two forwards combined for nine points on the night.
Anderson had another heavy workload in net. She saw 53 shots and stopped 43 of them. She’s made 161 saves in four games on 206 shots.
The schedule gets a little lighter for the Lakers in the coming weeks. Detroit Lakes’ next five opponents are Breckenridge-Wahpeton, Prairie Centre, International Falls, Morris-Benson-Area and Rock Ridge. The Lakers were 4-3 against those five teams last season.
