Girls track and field: Laker girls take second at Otter Invitational

Results from the Detroit Lakes girls track and field team at Fergus Falls.

FERGUS FALLS – The Detroit Lakes girls track and field team kicked off its outdoor season with a second-place finish at Fergus Falls’ Otter invite.

Junior Abby Larson won both the 100 (12.57) and 200-meter (27.86) races. She also anchored the Lakers’ first-place 4x100-meter relay with Jerzier Horner, Ella Paulson and Rylee Johnson. The four sprinters clocked in with the top time at 53.91 seconds.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Ella Paulson, Mogan Hausten, Brooklyn Markuson and Annie Paulson took second with a time of 1:56.23. Annie Paulson also took third place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.37.

Detroit Lakes had another impressive day in the field led by Jacee Hauser. She took third place in the shot put at 31-feet, 1-inch, and second in the discus at 97-feet, 7-inches. Elle Bettcher was right behind Hauser in the discus at 97-feet, 8-inches, which was good enough for third place. Brenna Skadsem notched a fourth-place finish in the shot put (29-feet, 10-inches) and seventh in the discus (84-feet, 2-inches).

Grace Gunderson took second place in the high jump at 5-feet, 2-inches. Horner rounded out her day with a third-place pole vault at -feet, 6-inches.

The Lakers were 22 points behind first-place Willmar in the team standings. Their score of 107 was good enough to beat out Bemidji by five points. Perham (91) and Minnewaska (69) completed the top five.
