Track and field: Detroit Lakes competes in Bemidji ahead of Section 8-2A prelims

BEMIDJI – The Detroit Lakes track and field teams competed in Bemidji on Monday in their final meet before the section prelims.

The boys and the girls each took third place. The boys finished with a team score of 91 while the girls totaled 83.

Annie Paulson won the 300-meter hurdles race with a time of 48.16. Lily Anderson also won the triple jump event at 33-feet, 5-inches. Paulson and Anderson notched the only two first-place finishes of the day for either Laker team.

Ethan Carrier took second place in the 100-meter dash at a time of 11.52 seconds. Alexander Fletcher brought home a pair of runner-up finishes. He took second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.2) and in the high jump (5-feet, 8-inches).

Rylee Johnson also had two second-place finishes. She had a 100-meter hurdles time of 15.85 and a high jump height of 4-feet, 8-inches. Jacee Hauser had the second-best shot put throw at 34-feet, 11-inches. Jerzie Hirner took second in the pole vault at 10-feet.

Detroit Lakes is hosting the preliminary round of the Section 8-2A track and field competition on Wednesday, June 1. DLHS is still looking for volunteers to help with the field events. The meet begins at 3 p.m. Contact Activities Director Rob Nielsen at rneilsen@detlakes.k12.mn.us if interested.
