STILLWATER – The Detroit Lakes girls track and field team hit the road on a chilly Saturday to compete in the Class 2A state true team meet.

The Lakers took eighth place out of 12 competing teams with a score of 422.5. Rocori, one of the teams the Detroit Lakes will compete against at the Section 8-3A championships, won the meet with a score of 601. Rockford (546.5), Mankato (503.5), Eden Valley-Watkins-Kimball (491) and Willmar (451), another 8-3A team, rounded out the top five.

Abby Larson took home a pair of top-eight finishes. She took second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.80 seconds before taking fourth in the 200-meter at 26.92 seconds. Julia Steffl took eighth place in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 12:31.33.

The Lakers had two girls place in the top eight in the hurdles events. Annie Paulson finished second in the 300-meter race at 48.25 seconds, while Rylee Johnson came in sixth (16.50) in the 100.

Johnson was also in the top eight in the high jump. She took eighth place at 4-feet, 10-inches. Grace Gunderson also cleared 4-feet, 10-inches for fourth place. Jacee Hauser took third in the discus at 111-feet, 5-inches, and sixth in the shot put at 33-feet, 2.5-inches.

Detroit Lakes has one regular-season meet left on May 23 in Bemidji before hosting the Section 8-3A meet.
