While first-year head coach Tom Vagle’s girls basketball team struggled most of the season to get in a groove, junior center Breanna Price excelled and rewrote three individual season records and four single-game marks during the season.
Price shattered the blocked shots in a season mark held previously by Jordan Even (2005-06) with 60. Price swatted away 91 shots in 27 games (3.37 per game). Even’s all-time career blocks record is in sight at 187.
Price’s 217 field goals made this season were 30 better than the former mark held by Shay Nielsen (2014-15).

Another of Nielsen’s mark, 500 points scored in a season, was improved by Price, who scored 508 this year.
Even is the all-time leading scorer at Detroit Lakes with 1,532 points. Price is on pace to become only the ninth player to reach 1,000 career points. Nielsen is second all-time with 1,337.
The Lakers’ season ended at Fergus Falls in the section playoffs where Price set a new single-game scoring record of 40 points. The former record (34) was held by Lisa Althoff, set in 1990. Price also set a new field goals made in a game mark of 18, besting Althoff’s prior mark of 17.
In the regular season finale February 23 at home versus Crosby-Ironton, Price made 11-12 field goal attempts to set a new shooting record in a game of 91 percent. Jenny Jost (1990) held the former record of 14-16 (88 percent).

Price’s seven blocks against Sartell-St. Stephen on February 3 tied a 30-year old record held by Darla Doebbert (1998).
Fellow junior teammate Lauryn Manning broke a free throw record from the same season set by Lynn Rosenow in 1988. Manning made 12 of 12 free throw attempts February, 16 against Staples-Motley. Rosenow’s former mark was 10-10.
