LAKE PARK - The Raiders improved to 3-0 on the season and sit atop the Northstar West Conference with Mahnomen heading into this Friday’s matchup with the Indians after a 34-6 victory over Badger-Greenbush-Middle River (0-3). Lake Park-Audubon blew the game open late with a 20-point fourth quarter against a struggling Gator squad that has been outscored 103-14 in three games. “It was a great team effort,” Head Coach Brad Dunham said. “Our running backs ran hard and our offensive-line controlled the line of scrimmage.” Senior quarterback Tim Brekken scored from a yard out pushing the Raider lead to 20-6, followed by fellow senior running back Tory Haglund’s 28-yard run and a 37-yard scamper by freshman Carter Raaen for the 34-6 final.
Raaen’s score was his only rushing attempt of the game giving the freshman a bloated average of 37 yards per carry. The Gators played the Raiders tough in the first half as the two teams traded scores. “The second quarter we shot ourselves in the foot but we refocused in the second half and played well,” Dunham said. “Defensively, we stopped the run and everyone did their responsibility.” Senior Taylor Briard both LPA on the board with a 35-yard touchdown run and a Brekken point-after for an early 7-0 lead. The Gators answered when Trevor Undeberg scored on a touchdown pass from Darius Watson cutting the Raider lead to 7-6. Taylor Briard scored the only third quarter touchdown from three-yards out to give the Raiders a 14-6 lead, the first of 27 unanswered points. Lake Park-Audubon got rushing contributions from 11 runners accumulating 281 total yards on the ground. Haglund rushed 14 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Briard added 46 yards and a score. Junior Paul Jenson rushed for 38 yards on three scores. Brekken was 5-8 passing for 73 yards and one interception.
