Laker football fans will not be too unhappy to hear Mike Rowe, head football coach at Rocori, has stepped down and accepted the superintendent of schools position in Henning, according to Rocori activities director Joel Baumgarten and a report by Tom Elliott of the St. Cloud Times.

Rowe moves on after nine years leading Rocori football. The Spartans have had the Lakers’ number taking four of five meetings from Detroit Lakes dating back to 2012, including the last four in a row.

Rowe led Rocori to the 2011 Class 4A state championship and the Spartans have won the last four Section 8AAAA titles.

Detroit Lakes was the last team to capture the section championship winning back-to-back in 2012 and 2013.

Rocori assistant coach James Herberg is taking over the Spartans’ program coming off a 10-1 season.

Robert Williams has been a sports editor for Forum Communications in Perham and Detroit Lakes since 2011.
