The Detroit Lakes girls' hockey team recorded its first shutout win of the season with a 2-0 blanking of Pequot Lakes Tuesday.
Freshman goalie Veronica Roy notched her first shutout as well, with 10 saves, while the Lakers pelted the Lightning's net 33 times.
"We controlled the puck basically from start to finish and created some good scoring opportunities, but hit the pipe four or fives times," said DL head coach Dan Maloney. "Their goalie also came up with some very good saves."
This time the Lakers jumped out on top early, as freshman Emily Payne scored at the 13:06 mark, assisted by Jayne Harms and Brianna Seebold.
Just 2:20 later, Seebold found the net once again, with Payne gaining the assist this time.

From there, no more scoring was had, but there was plenty of pipe ringing by the Lakers and a load of shots on net.
"It was good to get a lead right away and open the game up more with that 2-0 advantage," Maloney said. "I thought we played even better in the second and third periods, but just didn't get the puck in the net."
Roy also added the exclamation point to the win with a save on a Pequot Lakes penalty shot with 2:30 left in the game.
"That save was huge," Maloney said of the snuffed out penalty shot. "It brought a lot of excitement and added some spice to the win."
The Lakers (4-12-1) will host Wadena-Deer Creek (5-7) Thursday for a 7 p.m. start.
