Even though the Detroit Lakes girls' hockey team skated right with the visiting Moorhead Spuds for much of Thursday's game, the Lakers could only bust through past the Spuds' goalie Lydia Norwig once.
The senior goalie registered 27 saves for the Spuds, as Moorhead downed the Lakers 4-1.
"She did a nice job and didn't give up any rebounds," said DL head coach Dan Maloney. "She had good position and had a nice glove. (Norwig) didn't give much up as far as rebounds went."
The Lakers were able to generate some nice scoring opportunities, putting 28 shots on net, but Norwig was up to the task.
DL goalie Veronica Roy also had a save percentage of just over 90 percent with 38 saves, but the Spuds were able to strike with two goals in the second period after a scoreless first.

The Spuds added a big third goal in the third period, before the Lakers notched their own goal on a 5-on-3 opportunity by Emily Payne, with the assist by forward Callie Johnson.
"We did get off to a slow start in the first period, but got out of it being a scoreless tie," Maloney said. "We wanted to come out in the third, down two goals, and put one in early, but Moorhead got that third goal, which hurt."
The Spuds erased the scoreless tie on an Emily Magnan goal in the second period, as assists were picked up by Kristen Drechsel and Jenna Ulberg.
Ashley Talley put the Spuds up 2-0, as Drechsel buried the puck early in the third period for the all-important third goal.
Mikayla Carey capped the scoring in the third period for Moorhead.
"Veronica Roy had a good save percentage and I'm sure she wants a couple of those goals back, but she played well," Maloney said. "But we had more quality shots than Moorhead had, it was just their goalie played very well."
According to Minnesota Sports Online, Laker junior forward Brianna Seebold is the state's second-leading goal-scorer with 23 tallies. She trails Coon Rapids senior Rachael Bona, who has 31 on the season.
The Lakers (6-13) will host Morris/Benson (13-3) for a big section matchup Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m.
