The Detroit Lakes Senior Babe Ruth baseball team picked up the biggest win of the season putting up 19 runs against Tolna, North Dakota in a 19-2 in 9-inning game that was shortened due to mercy rule.
Every Laker in the starting line up registered at least 1 hit, and at least 1 run score.
Tanner Brend had a 2-4 day. Zack Oistad was 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases. Bradley Swiers was 2-2 with 2 RBI, 3 runs and a stolen base. Jake Bishop stayed hot going 2-4. Jordan Tucker registered the team’s first home run of the year with a 3-run big fly in the third inning.
Cooper Hermanson pitched a tidy 4 innings giving up just 2 hits, 1 walk, no runs to go with 7 strikeouts.
Brend pitched 2 innings in relief giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Bradley Swiers shut the door on the 7th inning allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and striking out a pair.
“This was a complete team game all around from pitching to hitting,” assistant coach Brandon Johnson said. “Aside from a few errors, the Lakers showed maturity as a team to continue to compete the whole game despite a large margin in the score.”
The Lakers have a busy week playing a doubleheader Monday in Thompson, North Dakota, 1 game Thursday in Barnesville.
The Lakers have been road warriors so far this season playing across the Red River.
DL will make its home debut at Washington Park this weekend.
An alumni game and home run derby will be held at Washington Park Friday, July 3, beginning at 5 p.m. The home derby is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the game to follow.
Saturday morning from 7-10 a.m., there will be a free will offering breakfast at the American Legion to help support the Detroit Lakes Youth Baseball Association.
Lake Region to begin play

The Lake Region Senior Babe Ruth League released its master schedule this week with play beginning in July.
The league consists of teams from Frazee, Pelican Rapids, Hawley, Ada, Ashby, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, Barnesville, Breckenridge, Brandon-Evansville/West Central Area and Twin Valley/Ulen-Hitterdal.
