Four DL swimmers had all-conference finishes as the Lakers placed second to Park Rapids at the Mid-State Conference championships at the DLCCC Aquatic Center Friday, Feb. 8.

“We had a really good meet; the boys performed very well,” Laker head coach Justin Hingst said. “They had many PR times and have set themselves up really well for the section meet. I told the boys before the meet that this would be their last chance to compete at home and to make the most of it.”

Senior Tucker Strawsell led the way with individual victories and personal best times in the  200-freestyle (1:55.02) and 500-freestyle (5:10.14).

“I had a special message for Tucker that this is his last home meet to give his all,” Hingst said. “He really impressed me with 3 PR swims.”

Strawsell also set a new personal mark in his 100-free leg (52.48) of the first place and all-conference 400-freestyle relay (3:46.45) with teammates Elijah Kitzmann, Jackson Zurn and John Gulon.

Kitzmann earned another conference honor in capturing the 100-free victory in 56.84.

Earning honorable mention were: Zurn as the 200-IM runner-up and a third place finish in the 100-fly; Kitzmann placed third in the 50-free and was on the runner-up 200-free relay team with Gulon, Micah Solberg and Strawsell; Gulon added a runner-up finish in the 100-backstroke.

Other personal bests: Zane Weaver 11-dive score 286.70 and 50-freestyle swim 33.34; Evan Thomas 11-dive score 190.65 and 50-free 36.76; Zurn 50-breaststroke in the 200-Medley relay 39.06; 200-IM 2:26.34, 100-fly 1:06.63 and 100-free leg of the 400-free relay 59.02; Luther Van Offelen 200-freestyle 2:48.18; Kitzmann 50-free 25.12 and 100-freestyle 56.84; Gulon 50-free in 200-freestyle relay 24.83.
