An already slim Detroit Lakes boys swimming and diving team competed without their top swimmer John Gulon, pulling double duty in a bunch of races in a 121-44 loss to a full complement of Moorhead Spuds Tuesday at the DLCCC Aquatic Center.

“The boys swam hard in this first of two meets this week,” said head coach Carol Fischer. “Lots of great teamwork as we covered all our relays and cleared the bench with all bodies in the water for the last relay.”

While the Lakers are struggling to fill every event, swimmers are continuing to gain pool experience. DL competed with nothing but sophomores or younger Tuesday night.

“We are quickly rounding the corner to the end of the regular season with four meets in less than three weeks,” said Fischer. “A couple more guys have now accomplished swimming every event; some of those who only swam freestyle last year - a whole new world with four strokes has opened for them. And we continue to focus on everyone dropping more time and divers getting more dives under their belt before the end of the season.”
