Seebold and Hanninen place fourth at sections
No. 6 Gabe Hanninen and Trey Seebold were eliminated from the Section 8A doubles tournament in a pair of losses Thursday, May 23 finishing in fourth place at the middle school tennis courts in Detrrce a true second place match but were defeated by Blake Fee and Logan Wardner of Crookston 6-2 6-4.
Eventual section champions No. 2 Tucker Skime and Noah Rupprecht of Thief River Falls sent the DL duo to the third place match in a 6-2, 6-1 semifinal victory to advance to the finals.

Senior captain Seebold medaled at sections for the first time in his career.
“Trey will be missed,” head coach Zach Biggar said. “He has been a leader on this team for many years. I started coaching Trey when he was a freshman. I have seen him grow and mature into a young man. I’m proud of his accomplishments and leadership.”
Co-captain Hanninen, a junior, finished fourth for the second year in a row and will lead next year’s team as the Lakers transition to Class AA.
“Gabe will return as a sixth year varsity player next year,” Biggar said. “He will continue as our team captain and lead our team into new waters next year."
Skime and Rupprecht earned the title with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Fee and Wardner. Both teams advanced to the state tournament.
Minnewaska freshman No. 2 Tate Reichmann captured the individual title 6-2, 6-3 over Thief River Falls sophomore No. 4 Camden Broadwell. Broadwell eliminated No. 3 Ben Kern of East Grand Forks in the true second place match to advance to state.
Thief River Falls will represent the section in team competition. The Prowlers defeated Perham 6-1 in the finals.
Among other awards handed out, Detroit Lakes’ assistant coach Tanner Beauchman was named the section’s assistant coach of the year.
