The Detroit Lakes girls tennis team handed out its season awards following an improved 2021 campaign.

Anna Askelson was voted singles MVP, most improved, singles points MVP and was a Mid-State Conference honorable mention.

“Anna is living proof that hard work pays off,” Detroit Lakes head coach Greg Unruh said. “One year ago, Anna didn’t win a single varsity match. She worked hard in the offseason, and she led the team in singles wins this season.”

Harper Bellefeuille was voted doubled MVP, doubles points MVP and was the only Laker to receive all-conference honors.

“A year ago, Harper only won one double match,” Unruh said. “She hates to lose, and it showed this season. Harper led the Lakers in doubles wins with nine. She made a big jump this season, and we hate to lose her to graduation.”
