Kyley Foster named Big Sky Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week
University of North Dakota junior pole vaulter Kyley Foster was named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on Monday for her record-breaking performance at Saturday’s UND Indoor Open.
Foster broke her own school record in the pole vault with a leap of 13 feet, 1.5 inches (4.00 meters), topping her previous record of 13.01 (3.99) that she set at last year’s Big Sky Indoor Championship. Saturday’s jump was also the top mark in the Big Sky this season, making Foster the first in the conference this year to clear 13 feet. She currently ranks 42nd nationally in the event.
Foster, a native of Detroit Lakes, Minn., advanced to the 2017 NCAA Division I Track & Field Outdoor West Preliminary as a sophomore, becoming UND’s first-ever pole vaulter to do so at the Division I level. She also earned indoor all-conference honors in each of her first two collegiate seasons.
Northern Arizona’s Paige Gilchrist was named Big Sky Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while NAU’s Andy Trouard and Montana State’s Kyle Douglass were the Big Sky Men’s Track and Men’s Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Foster and the Fighting Hawks are idle this week and will return to action Feb. 9-10 at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic in Brookings.
