Frazee girls subsection champs

The Frazee girls track and field team captured the Section 8, Subsection 30A championship Thursday, May 24.

The Hornets will send nine girls in 13 events to the Section 8A championships Saturday, June 2 in Glyndon.

“Our girls had another good day,” head coach Jim Jacobson said. “I thought everyone went out and performed well, despite the heat and humidity. We are looking forward to a good section meet.”

Frazee scored 124 points to pull out a close victory over Pelican Rapids (112) and Barnesville (108) in the nine-team field.

The Hornets swept the two distance races: Braylee Riewer won the 1,600m run in 5:57.06 and Ellie Morgan took the 3,200m run in a time of 12:27.38 with Riewer in fourth place (13:05.05).

Paige Ziegler was the 100m hurdles winner running 16:35 with teammates Jaryn Johannsen (17.10) and Rylee Moore (17.77) completing a sweep of the top three finishes. Johannsen placed second in the 300m hurdles (48.10).

Paige Oswald was the 200m dash runner-up (27.37).

The 4x100m relay team placed first in 51.93 run by Ziegler, Oswald, Moore and Ellie Reierson.

Ziegler, Oswald, Johannsen and Reierson combined to win the 4x200m relay in 1:48.73.

Ziegler also won the triple jump clearing 36-00.25.

Olivia Erickson placed second in the shot put with a throw of 33-06.25.

The girls section team will consist of: Rylee Moore (100m hurdles, high jump, triple jump), Paige Ziegler (100m hurdles, triple jump), Jaryn Johannsen (100m hurdles, 300m hurdles), Ellie Reierson (200m dash), Paige Oswald (200m dash), Braylee Riewer (1,600, 3,200), Ellie Morgan (3,200) Megan Danielson (800m run), Olivia Erickson (shot put) and the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.

The Frazee boys team scored 79.5 points to place fourth at subsections behind Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (179), Ada-Borup/Norman County (135) and United Clay-Becker (82).

Representing the Hornet boys at sections will be Joby Giefer (110m hurdles, 300m hurdles), Michael Miller (300m hurdles, triple jump) Caleb Wutzke in the 200m dash, Alex Beck in the 1,600m run, Christian Carlson and Grady Larsen in the 3,200m run, Caleb Drescher in the pole vault, Vincent Helmers in shot put and discus throw, the 4x200m relay team (Drescher, Cole Fleisher, Wutzke, Miller), and the 4x400m relay team (Drescher, Wutzke, Giefer, Miller).
