The Bethel women’s track and field team was led by the 4x100m relay team of Grace Perrenoud, Delia Labatt, AddieKay Johnson (Detroit Lakes), and Hannah Sankey. The Royals placed second in that race running a time of 48.32 in the outdoor season opener at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego on Saturday, March 23.
The Bethel women placed eighth out of 14 teams.
Johnson is a three-time All-American at Bethel after claiming her third award running anchor for the 4x400 team at the NCAA Division III indoor championships in Boston in early March.
The Royals will continue their outdoor season of competition back in Minnesota at Hamline University on Saturday, April 6.
Freshman Jay Nielsen (Detroit Lakes) placed fifth in the hammer throw 36.58m (120-00) and fourth in discus throw 39.76m (130-05) for the University of North Dakota at the Jim Duncan Invitational March 29-30 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Fighting Hawks places third behind Northern Iowa and Drake University.
Senior centerfielder Connor Johnson (Detroit Lakes) had a pair of singles and stolen base in a 12-3 Southwest Minnesota State University loss at Upper Iowa Monday, April 1. The Mustangs (5-13) split the doubleheader with a 2-0 victory in the opening game of a NSIC doubleheader.
Johnson has started 16 of 17 games in the 2019 season. He is batting .259 with one homer, six RBI and seven runs scored.
Sophomore Sydney Prussia (Detroit Lakes) was not in the starting lineup but scored a run in each game as a pinch runner in a University of Jamestown women’s softball sweep at Saint. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska Sunday, March 31.
Prussia has started 19 of 24 games batting .323. She has scored 19 runs, hit two homers and knocked in 13 runs to go with two stolen bases or the 20-8 Jimmies. Jamestown is 4-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Freshman Rachael Perkins (Detroit Lakes) scored a run as a pinch runner for the Concordia women’s softball team in an 11-4 loss to Gustavus Adolphus at Hollingsworth Field in Saint Peter Sunday, March 31.
Perkins has made two starts in her first season with the Cobbers collecting two runs scored and a stolen base.
The Cobbers are 8-10 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC.
Freshman Ben Unruh (Detroit Lakes) posted a 169 (87-82) to place 64th overall for the South Dakota School of Mines men's golf team at the Bob Writz Men's Golf Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Course in Lakewood, Colorado Sunday, March 24. The Hardrockers placed ninth overall with a combined score of 658. The host Colorado School of Mines placed first with a score of 605.
