The Perham Yellowjackets defended home turf in both the boys and girls meet at the Perham Track and Field Invitational at Meinhover Field Tuesday, April 16, but Frazee posted runner-up finishes on both sides in a strong effort outdoors.

Both meets were held to 16 events as field conditions did not allow for long jump or triple jump to be completed.

The Hornet girls scored 88.5 points, 20 better than third place Ottertail Central (68). Perham dominated the field scoring 203 points.

Jaryn Johannsen continued to pile up hurdles victories winning the 100m race handily in 16.80. Ottertail Central’s Anna Meyers placed second in 18.27. Three Hornets placed top four with Rylee Moore in third place (18.33) and Olivia Petron in fourth (18.36).

Moore picked up a field victory winning the high jump at five-feet.

Johannsen had a similar winning time gap in the 300m hurdles winning in 49.91 over runner-up Lacy Richter of Perham (51.88). Megan Danielson placed fourth in 54.40 showing she has more than distance in her arsenal during her senior season. She was the 1,600 runner-up crossing in 5:40.74 behind only Perham’s Caitlin Covington (5:36.57).

Paige Oswald (13.30) and Ellie Reierson (13.34) placed second and third in the 100m dash.

Giefer stars for Hornet boys

Joby Giefer picked up two victories. He cleared 5-10 to win the high jump and won the 300m hurdles in 43.43.

The Frazee senior was denied a hurdling sweep as the 110m runner-up in a time of 15.57 beaten by the slimmest of margins at the line by Perham’s Isaac Scheidecker (15.56).

Vincent Helmers added a second team win in the field throwing 50-01 to win the shot put. He placed second in discus (110-07) behind Perham’s Colton Kostynick (125-07).

Caleb Wutzke ran 24.21 to finish second in the 200m dash.

Kaden Hiemenz cleared 7-06 to place second in pole vault.
