Vikings dethrone Hornet girls at True Team

The Frazee girls track team slipped by Pelican Rapids last season to capture a second straight Section 6A True Team title but it was the Vikings returning the favor Thursday at home scoring 712.5 points to advance to the state meet.

Frazee placed fourth with 660.5 points behind Osakis in second place (680.5) and Barnesville (666).

The Hornets got big finishes from their star athletes.

Ellie Morgan pulled away from the pack in the final lap to win the 1,600m run in 5:34.95 and captured a distance sweep taking the two-mile in 11:59.36.

Paige Ziegler (15.27) and Jaryn Johannsen (16.55) finished one-two in the 100m hurdles and the two flip-flopped the top two finishes in the 300m hurdles, Johannsen winning in 47.74, Ziegler second in 49.90.

Paige Oswald won the long jump clearing 16-01.75 with Johannsen in second at 15-11.

Ziegler won again in the triple jump with a leap of 35-09.

Hornet boys runners-up The Frazee boys team placed second scoring 739.5 behind only Wadena-Deer Creek with 844. The Hornets are still alive for one of the four wild card spots, which will be determined later this week after all the section meets are concluded and calculated.

The boys team used a team effort to move up the standings doing so without an event winner.

Grady Larsen had Frazee’s top finish just missing a win in the 3,200m with a runner-up time of 10:41.31.

Caleb Wutzke placed third (23.22) and fourth (53.59) in the 100m and 200m dashes.

Mike Miller placed third in the 300m hurdles running 42.34 and finished fourth in the triple jump (38-07.50).

Vincent Helmers continued to be the throws leader placing third in shot put (46-08).

Joby Giefer finished in fifth place in the 110m hurdles recording a time of 16.62.

Alex Beck placed fifth in the 1,600m run (4:59.57).
