Volleyball playoffs underway

The section playoffs are underway for area volleyball teams, with play-in games being held tonight (Wednesday).

The Detroit Lakes volleyball squad earned the No. 7 seed in the Section 8-3A playoffs. The Lakers (11-12) were bumped up to Class 3A this year and will travel to No. 2 Moorhead (16-11) Wednesday evening in the first round.

The Spuds defeated the Lakers Oct. 6, by the score of 3-0.

The winner will advance to play the winner between No. 3 Bemidji (20-8) and No. 6 Alexandria (8-19) Friday at the high seed.

The top seed in the upper bracket is Fergus Falls (21-5). The finals will be played on a neutral site Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.

The Lake Park-Audubon team (14-8) gained the No. 3 seed in the Section 6-1A playoffs in the upper bracket. They will await the winner between No. 6 Norman County West (9-12-3) and No. 11 Rothsay (1-23).

The Raiders will host the winner Friday at 7 p.m.

LP-A has defeated Rothsay twice and NCW once, all by the scores of 3-0.

If LP-A wins, the Raiders will play the winner of No. 3 of the bottom bracket Norman County East (16-5) or No. 7 Park Christian/No. 10 Waubun Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Hawley.

Frazee gained the No. 4 seed with its 13-13 record. The Hornets will host No. 5 Barnesville (11-14-1) Friday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to play the winner between No. 1 Ada-Borup (26-1) or No. 8 New York Mills/No. 9 Ulen-Hitterdal at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 in Hawley.

The finals will be on a neutral court Nov. 5, at 7 p.m.
