Laker volleyball sweeps Gobblers
Detroit Lakes volleyball won two straight matches for the first time this season and bumped above the .500 line after quickly dispatching of the Aitkin Gobblers 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-21) Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Ralph Anderson Gymnasium.
It was Aitkin that got off to a better start leading by as many as six points in the first set and holding a 21-17 lead late.
Detroit Lakes answered scoring eight of the next 10 points culminating in an Anna Cihak kill on set point to give the Lakers a 25-23 victory.
Teeya Doppler started a DL run early in the second set with a kill, followed by a block to go up 7-4. The Lakers only allowed the Gobblers eight more points in the set taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-12 win.
Jocelyn Patnaude gave DL its first match point in the third set on a kill to take a 24-17 lead. The Laker offense sputtered for four points before Toppler sealed the match with a kill from the back row.
Doppler was the lone Laker in double figures with a dozen kills, seven digs and added a pair of service aces. Cihak had eight kills, a team-high eight digs and two aces. Bre Price contributed six kills. Price and Patnaude had four blocks assists each. Gabby Fredrickson had a team-high three ace serves.
Aitkin dropped to 3-6 on the season. The Lakers head into Thursday’s home match against the defending Mid-State Conference champions from Park Rapids (3-0) with a 3-2 mark.
