Defending conference champs sweep in DL

The defending Mid-State Conference champions from Park Rapids (4-1) erased a first set deficit to earn a sweep in Detroit Lakes 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-16) Thursday night.

The Lakers led 18-14 looking to close out the first set but the Panthers rallied outscoring DL 10-2 to force set point. DL held off two before giving up the set 25-22.

The Panthers led the entirety of the second set and closed out the victory with matching set wins in the second and third by a nine-point margin in each.

Teeya Doppler and Anna Cihak led DL in kills with nine and six, respectively. Both players, along with Maren Daggett had six digs each.

The Lakers drop to 3-3 heading into their first tournament action of the season in Hawley Saturday, Sept. 15. Play begins at 9 a.m. with teams from Barnesville, East Grand Forks, Lake of the Woods, Perham, Thief River Falls and Wheaton/Herman-Norcross joining the host Nuggets.
