Mahnomen-Waubun, Lake Park Audubon and Frazee all hit the road this week in hopes of knocking off higher seeds in the opening rounds of their section tournaments.

The Thunderbirds (10-14) earned the sixth seed in Section 6A-East and will head to Fertile-Beltrami on Thursday at 7 p.m. On Oct. 14, Fertile-Beltrami (18-8) beat Mahnomen-Waubun 3-1 in the only meeting between the two teams this season.

The winner will likely travel to Fosston (18-9) on Friday night as the Greyhounds secured the second seed in the East. They will take on the winner of seventh-seeded Blackduck and 10th-seeded Bagley in the play-in round.

The Raiders of LPA finished the regular season 13-10 and hit the road for New York Mills on Wednesday night. LPA is the fifth seed in Section 6A-North after going 6-4 against section teams this season.

The Raiders dropped their only match of the season at home against the fourth-seeded Eagles (18-7) but ended the season winning six of its last eight games. The winner will likely get the North’s top-seeded Breckenridge on Friday night on the road. Breckenridge finished the regular season 25-2 with an 11-0- section record.

Frazee is the sixth seed in the South and will travel to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. first-round matchup. The Hornets finished the regular season 4-19 with a 2-9 8AA record.

Frazee lost its only meeting with DGF (16-11) this season on Sept. 16 by a score of 3-0. DGF is the South’s third seed and went 9-4 in 8AA play this fall. The winner of the sub-section quarterfinal will play against either second-seeded Hawley or seventh-seeded Pelican Rapids on Friday night.
